What DocuSign actually limits you to

Our scenario: single user, monthly billing. DocuSign's Personal plan is $11/month (an annual commitment billed monthly, $132/year) for one user and just 5 envelopes a month. Standard is $30/user/month (annual commitment, $360/year billed monthly) for up to 50 users, with 100 envelopes per user per year — or a monthly-plan option of 10 envelopes per user per month. Business Pro is $45/user/month ($540/year billed monthly), same 100-envelope allowance, but adds payment collection, web forms and PowerForms. Enhanced plans above that are custom quotes for 50+ users with SSO and 24/7 support.

Full-featured competitors that undercut it

Dropbox Sign's Essentials plan is $15/month for one user, and Standard is $25/user/month for a small team; both include templates, audit trail, SMS delivery, in-person signing, identity verification, web forms and API access — the same feature set DocuSign spreads across its Standard and Business Pro tiers, at a lower entry price. SSO shows up in higher tiers; branding and bulk send are not mapped to a tier on the pricing page. Signeasy's Personal plan is $10/month for one user with unlimited signing and 5 contracts sent monthly; Business is $20/month per seat for unlimited sending, 5 templates, an admin dashboard and AI key-term extraction; Business Pro is $30/month per seat, adding roles & permissions, audit logs, custom branding and HubSpot/SharePoint integration.

SignWell's Free plan gives one sender 1 template and 3 documents a month, with no custom branding, bulk send or conditional logic. Light is $12/month ($10/month billed annually) for one sender with 5 templates and unlimited documents; Business is $36/month ($30/month billed annually) for 3 senders with unlimited templates and documents, and is the tier where SMS delivery, conditional field rules, data validation and in-person signing switch on (custom branding and bulk send are listed on paid plans generally, not confirmed as Business-only). Additional senders cost $12/month each on Light and $15/month each on Business (both discounted about 20% on annual billing); SignWell also has a custom-quoted Enterprise tier for teams of 50 or more with high document volume.

The envelope math, spelled out

DocuSign's Standard plan's headline is 100 envelopes per user per year — divided evenly, that's a little over 8 a month, tighter than it first sounds, unless you take the monthly-plan option's 10-envelopes-per-user-per-month instead. Against that cap, Dropbox Sign, SignWell Business and Documenso Individual all include unlimited documents for one user at $15-25/month, with no envelope counting at all. Signeasy sits in between: its Personal plan caps sending at 5 contracts a month (same ceiling as DocuSign Personal), but Business and Business Pro both remove the cap entirely for unlimited sending. If your volume is unpredictable, the unlimited-document tier is worth more than it looks on the sticker price.

The open-source option

Documenso is open source, and its Free plan already covers 5 documents a month with up to 10 recipients per document, at no cost. Individual is $25/month billed yearly ($300/year, or $30/month month-to-month) for unlimited documents plus API access, embedded signing and custom branding. Teams is $40/month billed yearly ($480/year) for 5 users, with extra seats at $8/user/month, and Platform is $250/month billed yearly ($3,000/year) for unlimited documents and users plus Slack integration support. If you outgrow the hosted plans, Documenso also offers self-hosted licensing — pricing isn't published, but running it on your own infrastructure removes the per-envelope ceiling entirely, something none of the SaaS options above offer.

Two products with published prices but no confirmed features

Our research hasn't confirmed capability data for two more products in this category, so they can only be named on price. Xodo's Document Suite is $14.99/month billed yearly, its Web-only tier is $7.99/month billed yearly, and its Desktop-only tier is $9.99/month billed yearly. PandaDoc's Free eSign plan is $0/month; Starter is $19/seat/month billed annually ($228/year), with monthly billing priced higher (the exact monthly rate isn't published); Business is $49/seat/month billed annually ($588/year). Treat both as prices to compare, not feature bets, until we can verify what each tier includes.
