Confluence's own pricing didn't render for our research — a real gap. Here's what the other single-user and small-team knowledge base tools confirmed, priced and sourced.

Confluence itself: a pricing gap
Our scenario: single user, monthly billing. Confluence has a free plan, according to Atlassian's own pricing page, but its prices render through a JavaScript calculator that our research wasn't able to capture — so we don't have a confirmed number for any Confluence tier, free or paid, to anchor this guide against. That's a real research gap, not a $0 claim; until it's re-verified, this guide compares the priced knowledge-base tools against each other instead.
Free tiers for a single person
GitBook's Free plan is $0 for one site and one user, with unlimited page views — though its AI assistant (GitBook Agent) is capped at 10 messages a week, and it has no custom domain or AI search. Nuclino's Free plan is also $0, for up to 50 items, 3 canvases and 2GB of storage; its paid tiers don't show a public price, but they do specify what upgrading buys — Starter adds unlimited items and canvases with 10GB of storage per user (14-day free trial, no card required), and Business adds SAML SSO and 20GB per user. Neither Outline, Slite nor Tettra offers a free plan in our data — all three start from a paid, per-seat price.
Per-seat pricing, and the minimums that hide behind it
Tettra's Scaling plan is $8/user/month, but it carries a 10-user minimum — so a single user actually costs $80/month, not $8, unless the team is genuinely at 10 seats; SAML SSO and SCIM are paid add-ons on top of that. Slite's Basic plan is $10/user/month billed yearly, including unlimited docs, 5GB of storage per user and an AI 'Ask' feature capped at 30 questions a month per seat; Pro is $20/user/month billed yearly and adds Slite Agent, OpenID SSO and 10GB of storage per user. Outline prices by team-size band rather than per seat: its Cloud tier for 1-10 members is a flat $10/month total, its 11-100 member tier is $79/month, and its 101-200 member tier is $249/month, with teams automatically moved up a tier once they outgrow it — for a single user, that $10/month flat rate undercuts Tettra's per-seat math (which forces $80/month due to its 10-user minimum) and ties Slite's $10/user/month at exactly one seat.
Documentation platforms price per site, not per user
GitBook's paid tiers are billed per site plus per user: Premium is $65/site/month plus $12/user/month (that rate applies when billed annually), and Ultimate is $249/site/month plus $12/user/month, with its AI Assistant limited to 500 successful answers before you need to contact sales; auto-translation is a metered add-on on top, $25 for the first 50,000 words then $0.20 per 1,000 words after. Helpjuice doesn't offer a single-user price at all — its cheapest plan, Customized Knowledge Base, is $249/month but bundles 30 user seats and 12GB of storage without the AI Suite; AI-Knowledge Base is $449/month for 100 users, 24GB of storage, SSO and the AI Suite included at no extra cost; and Unlimited AI-Knowledge Base is $799/month for unlimited users and 38GB of storage. All three are built and priced for teams, not a lone writer.
Quote-only and unpriced
Document360 publishes no public pricing at all — its page states pricing is customized per configuration (team size, workspaces, languages, SSO needs), so we can't state a number for it, free or paid. That leaves GitBook Free and Nuclino Free as the only two genuinely free single-user options in this category with confirmed prices, and Outline's flat $10/month as the cheapest confirmed paid price for a small team. Between the two research gaps in this category — Confluence's unrendered calculator and Document360's quote-only page — the practical takeaway is the same: check the vendor's own pricing page directly before assuming either is cheap or expensive, since neither number is in our data yet.
